A fun example of how a great song by an up and coming band can turn a fairly typical holiday ad into something approaching art – Radio Shack licenses “Life Magazine” by Cold Cave, an up and coming indie band on Matador Records, in their holiday commercial.

No surprise that their new ad agency is looking to bring The Shack up to date  with a whole new look  and feel – check out their music focused Facebook page (including a post about Stereolab??) and a new Youtube page focused on Music Videos.

In the indie music world, the requisite discussion of “is this selling out?” is populating twitter and blogs but we were curious: Is this the work of Radio Shack aligning itself with the underground music movement or simply a case where a good song that does the job?
